How I Think About the Therapy Process
I think therapy is a partnership, and the process starts by building a relationship between us from which therapeutic change can sprout and grow. This is often easier said than done, as many of the people I share space with have been hurt in relationships. Therefore, we move through the process at a slow, comfortable pace while we identify the work that the person would like to do. I work from an integrative feminist approach, which leans into trauma-informed understanding, skills-based teaching for feeling better fast, and narrative therapy, which situates people as the authors of their stories. I work collaboratively with the other person in the room to best meet their unique needs and support them as they move towards their goals.
Who I Work Best With
I best work with teens and adults across the lifespan who feel like they don’t fit in. These narratives of “not fitting in” may stem from marginalized identities people hold, such as LGBTQ+, BIPOC, religious affiliation, Disabled, or those with chronic health conditions. They may also come from other struggles a person may have, such as substance use or addiction, or difficulties in relationships. The experiences may have led to feelings of depression, anxiety, social isolation, and trauma. If any of this sounds like you, we may be a good fit.
Specialty Training and Services
I am a licensed Psychologist in Washington State who identifies as Disabled and uses a wheelchair. I got my Doctorate from Antioch University, Seattle in 2019. Before that, I was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, also in Washington, and I have been working in Community Mental Health for over a decade. I have additional training in two areas. I got my Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling, which focuses on working with people who have disabilities and chronic health conditions, and I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I also got my addictions training at Edmonds College and have the Washington State Substance Use Professional certificate.
Who I am Outside of Work
I am from Snohomish County born and raised and I absolutely love the Pacific Northwest, rain and all! You can often find me outside walking my dogs, gardening, sitting on the porch with a good book, or out in the woods or by a river somewhere. In the darker winter months I enjoy playing with recipes, board games with friends, and crafts with my nieces.
